Cool, thanks for the tiles Atrius! I can already see some pretty cool things that we can do with the tiles on layer 2, and we even have space to add/replace tiles if we want. The spires on snowy terrain?

I like how that looks dwkjohn. I would be sure to add a bridge or two, but it I can't think of much to add otherwise.

Snowy terrain is a different tileset, as are the waterfalls at the edges of the world.  This creates some challenges in designing these types of areas since the game can only use one of the overworld tilesets at a time.  The game usually overcomes this by having enough ocean space between them that you can't see more than 1 type of area at the same time, or in the case of Imil & Prox making it so the player can't travel between them without going through a cave or something similar.

I like what you've done with the map so far dwkjohn! It looks really good. I do hope to catch up in the Community Hack area. From what I've read so far it sounds cool!

So for the other tilesets, are the snowy ones for Prox and Imil the same tilesets or different ones? I recall that the black void north of Prox is usually oceanic, but I just wanted to ask to make sure. From the way things look, we might have to put some mountains along the northern sides of the Mercury and Mars continents.

It's not bad so far... I'd like to see what it'd be like in-game, so we could see how it'd appear when actually moving around.  Maybe once the tileset application is done, Atrius can make a mockup for us.

I realize we haven't had any discussion on the world map in over a year, so I was wondering on how the progress is going?

http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1363.0;attach=932;image = Role's version: I like the ammount of room we have at the starting location to walk.
http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1363.0;attach=949;image = dwkjohn's version: It looks like he added another river that might cramp up the starting location, much like my extended mountains idea from way back. However, nothing a bridge can't fix.

Any ideas on where the exact starting location will be? (Right by the ocean, right by a mountain, just in the middle of a field, etc.) Assuming that we are starting in an actual village/site.

In fact, I did have one idea to make the starting location be in that final area place... But if that was done, you'd need to have something that will block your path off until later in the game.

Ofcourse, this may make the ship barricade in the sea pointless, unless there was some alternate exit. Ofcourse, there is always the option to use a cutscene where say maybe the characters faint in a battle or something. (Resulting in the main characters being revived in a town or something of the sort.)

With neither Sala nor a new Editor update?  Nowhere.  I've pretty much given up hope for the project and moved on, sadly.

@Starting at the end:  No you don't.  The whole area was supposed to change at the end of the game, remember?  Thanks to the Viral Area, heading into that zone was akin to heading into the Dark Eclipse Area in DD.  A simple story flag would trigger the shift in enemies and level layout I figure.  I love the idea, though.  It's a shame I don't think anything will come of it...

I was going to say I liked dwkjohn's version, but after a few more looks and some thought I'm more leaning to role's look, though I think there should be more mountains, but maybe not as many as in dwkjohn's version. I also Like who Role's version has the rivers flowing from or to the center, which I would have suggested if not already there.

So I noticed that Role's and dwkjohn's shore line to the final place are in different places, so I decided to switch things up a bit...

It's not perfect, but I had a couple possibilities in mind.

1: Start in either city, and require something from the other in order to cross the mountain path to the other continent. Pretty much the Abandoned City and Mountain Pass should be connected somehow.
2: Just go straight through to the other continent?

Ofcourse, this is a concept idea, if anyone thinks of improvements, be sure to explain.

@Abandoned City... Think of it as being right next to ocean for irrigation, and next to a mountain for ore... And one of my ideas was that that place could have a plot for the final place, but I am not sure. I know I am behind on what Dimensional Crisis is currently about, so bare with me. ; Ofcourse it's possible that it could be a town split in two halves due to rocks falling...

So, are we still doing this?  Considering how long it's been since anyone posted in here, and the current status of the editor, along with Sala leaving... I had assumed that the project was on Hiatus at best. :/

Not that I'm complaining if it's not, I'm just surprised to see people posting in here is all.

Well, maybe. In my theory, I figure we could just get a book going before actually doing the hack, (Like how some movies are based off books.), but with all the reading, I figure that would make it harder for people to get attached to this project.

@Current status of the editor: That is understood, but as the project develops, I could be more motivated to make patches. Maybe? (Even if I don't have an editor actually ready for release.)

@Salanewt leaving: If we really needed him for anything, we could get him on Skype or YL, but I figure other than that, he won't be actively working on the project, so it seems I'm the only one who knows enough about the data that would like this project to advance further. (If my procrastination routine doesn't get in the way.) I probably knew more about the data then him in general, anyway.

What I meant was that Sala was kind of the glue holding it together.  Basically, if he's not here, and I start working on it, I usually wind up being the only person submitting ideas.

There's nobody around to "do this", is there? This is what reminded me to actually bring it up.

Salanewt: [me] considers giving him the Sol Blade...
Salanewt: Oh my. To be honest though, I'd be more likely to give Briggs stuff from later regions; him being a pirate from another continent and all.
JamietheFlameUser: How not to design boss fights: give human-type bosses stats and equipment on par for what the Editor says their level is and what equipment is available where they're from. You get stuff like an actually scaled to level 21 Briggs with a Great Sword, Silver Plate, Silver Helm, Vambrace, and Leather Boots. God, that was BS.
Saturos: Wow first part of exam is ower (in english) tomorow speaking part.
JamietheFlameUser: Eh, I didn't know the exact chance of Curse screwing you over. Still, that 6% chance to fail to act at all could screw you over when it matters most. The obvious solution, of course, is to stick that armour on a character who doesn't do anything but spam attack moves anyway.
leaf: ...assuming I'm remembering the chance of curse taking effect correctly as 25%
Today at 07:09:50
leaf: in fact, you get two turns the majority of the time (~56%), and only completely fail to act ~6%, the remainder of the time getting one action
Today at 07:07:49
leaf: I like that stealth armor buff. it wouldn't make sense to do that with the clerics ring available, but if you remove that, it's actually an interesting item. On average, you get ~1.5 turns per round. it's potentially very strong, but carries risks
Today at 07:04:59
leaf: lol
JamietheFlameUser: Reading the Venus Psynergy topic and 'lol'ing at Role's reaction to a very simple spell idea I'd had (and still think is awesome), where rock explodes out of the ground from a single point in a focused, cone-shaped burst. Role read me the riot act about not combining elements again. lol.
JamietheFlameUser: Well, one thing I came up with that was actually potentially cool is a modification to the Stealth Armour. I gave it +1 turns, under the assumption that the Cleric's Ring would be removed. You might get 2 actions that round, or 1 action, or maybe no actions at all! RNG at its finest.
Knight of Purgatory: Nice orange text kain. Maybe it should be a shiny gold
